KUCH LAMHE MAA KE NAAM

Every year, DOBARA hosts a heartfelt poetry reading event in celebration of mothers, offering a space for both poets and participants to express their emotions, memories, and love for the most important woman in their lives – their mother. Many of our members have experienced the profound loss of their mothers, and this event serves as a beautiful, emotional tribute where original poems are shared, and some recite beloved works by others – all on the theme of motherhood.

On 28th September 2024, we gather to mark a special occasion. This year, we commemorate the 6th anniversary of Begum Khadija Ansari's passing. For six consecutive years, DOBARA has assisted seniors in honoring the memory of their mothers, in partnership with Mrs. Farida Hussain, the daughter of Begum Khadija Ansari and Justice M.R.A. Ansari.

Mrs. Farida Hussain realized after her mother’s passing in 2017 that her mother’s deep love for shaeree (poetry) had been left unfulfilled due to illness. Although Begum Khadija Ansari had long yearned for a mushaira, it could not take place during her lifetime. To honor her mother’s wishes, Mrs. Hussain hosted a mushaira on her mother’s first death anniversary in 2018. This deeply emotional experience sparked a desire to spread wellbeing through poetic expression, and DOBARA was quick to step in and offer support.

Since then, DOBARA has organized an annual mushaira chaired by Mrs. Farida Hussain. This magical event brings together schoolchildren, youth, seniors, and adults of all ages, fostering intergenerational connections through the shared love of poetry. It promotes self-expression, boosts self-esteem, and spreads a sense of wellbeing throughout the community.

Here’s a brief history of our recent events:

• 2019: Hosted by the Vimal Mehmood Foundation
• 2020 & 2021: Virtual events during the pandemic
• 2022: Hosted at LaMakaan
• 2023: Hosted at the Vimal Mehmood Foundation, Masab Tank
• 2024: To be held at DOBARA Headquarters, Sheikhpet, Hyderabad

We invite you to join us for this year’s event, where participants will share a few lines of their original poetry, all in tribute to the theme of Mother.

• Theme: Original poetry on Maa (Mother) – limited to 120 words
• Time per Poet: 3 minutes
